Until now.
Our team has been working hard on the successor to DIVA for over a year now and I am very pleased to announce that a full featured release is appearing soon on the horizon.
After all this time, what do you have to look forwards to?
3ivx Crush is a complete professional batch compression application designed for ease of use and engineered with full support of all 3ivx compression options and with many bonuses. Both Professional and Personal versions of the application are being created. Pricing for each is still being finalized.
The initial release includes the following features and much more:
- The application processes either individual files or batches of files.
- Number of files supported for batching limited only by memory.
- Tested with over 500 individual files in one batch.
- Support for all 3ivx compression features, including single and dual pass options.
- It's really really fast.
- Both audio and video are processed.
- Template functionality allows you to save as many compression presets as needed
- Excellent support for both single and dual processor machines.
- Full use of the application is allowed while compressing.
- Templates allow for customized naming of files.
- Templates can be customized to output to .mov, .mp4, for 3GPP devices, the PSP, and as soon as we test it, the video iPod.
- Ability to compress using 3ivx or any installed QuickTime codec including H.264
- Filters allow for scaling, cropping and de-interlacing of source video.
- Filter plugins allow for extensibility and additional functionality.
- Compression preview window.
- Time to complete and time elapsed readout allows for easy billing of computer time used to compress.
- Compression speed displayed in FPS during compression
- Always running Watch Folders allow for compression of all files in a folder as they appear.
- Notification using Growl allows for email alerts upon compression completion or other important messages.
- Quickstart guide and task based documentation provided.
I've been using the application for many months now and it has become instrumental in many areas of my professional video production work. In my slightly biased opinion (and according to several of our beta testers), this application is just awesome.
Speaking for the team, I sincerely hope that these features are of interest to all of you and we look forwards to delivering a great app "real soon now."

~what is so damn un holy about giveing a release date?
~How much
~will pro users like me get a discount
~Why is this snenk peek not on your main page
audio and video OMG I am in lOvE
There are many things I do not understand about myself and Divx. As for myself and 3ivx, I've been working with the team (Henry, Jan, others) helping to move this product from our wishes into reality since about January or sometime before. We've been in deep stealth mode since before then and I think it's time to come out of cloak. Disable the cloaking device Scotty.
Q: What is so damn unholy about giving a release date?
A: We're not done yet. In software development, things always take longer than you expect. By giving a release date, we would be teasing you and shooting ourselves in the foot. Since we don't like pain I can confirm that "we're pretty darn close". Good enough? I hope so. It's all I've got right now.
Q: How much? We've got ideas on that but as we are going to be releasing both Pro and Personal packages, we'll announce the prices when we are just about to release.
How much of a discount will users like you get? Are you a registered Diva user? We'll have to figure that out.
Q: Why is this sneak peek not on the main page?
A: Because it is a sneak peek.
I'm really happy that it sounds like you want the product right away. This rocks. We'll do everything we can to get it out asap.
FYI, today I was working on our "Export to iPod" scripts.
On a Dual 2.0 GHz G4, I got 38 FPS exporting a video to the iPod.
The 1 hour and 28 minute video compressed in under and hour and the G4 was completely usable all the time. In fact, I burned a few DVDs, and surfed using Safari and created more export to iPod scripts in Crush while compressing the video.
The 1 hour and 28 minute video ended up at pretty near perfect quality and was 308 MB.
While I've been writing this, Crush has been smushing the same video to a test H.264 file for the iPod. Initial performance numbers are significantly better than exporting through Quicktime.
Batch export to the iPod anyone? :]
Correction. Just ran the test again and using 3ivx Crush, it exported the 1 hour 28 minute test video to the iPod at 63-70 FPS. Total elapsed time: 28 minutes
This is with the most demanding compression settings and at best quality. If you don't mind a larger file, and the faster settings, the compress can run over 100 FPS. I'm looking at 97.96 FPS right now. Now this is on a Dual 2GHz G5. The Dual 2.7's numbers are even more impressive.

Phats, I was just wondering if support for the quad processor G5 would keep you phat and happy?
4 simultaineous encodes running at realtime mayhaps?
I'm not promising anything yet and I'll have to double check when I get my hands on a Quad but it SHOULD work.
If that doesn't get an OMG, 1337, I just don't know what will.

lol.. i think you already know the answer to that ;-)
but here goes anyway
OMG!!!!!!!!!
(see's impending expense out of bank account)
Seriously, i've always been 'VERY' impressed how tailored to the mac DiVA is compared to many other AV encoding apps which rely so heavily on open source code, or are built by small time coders who (justifiably) have little time to keep on top of the development.
You surely must know that you've got a winner here ;-) especially since the release of the iPod video. (very good timing)
Here's looking forward to alot of coverage on all the mac news/blog sites for when you release Crush and any new 3ivx variant. I've absolutely no doubt it will be huge.
Well done to you and the rest of the team.

I would love to be able to dump a bunch of videos in different formats (MPEG1/2, AVI, unprotected VOB, etc.), pick from a selection of defaults for iPod playback (including different resolutions), hit 'Go' and have the program figure it all out.
Right now, I think the best you can do with avi is a 2-step procedure. First convert avi to mov with DoctorDivx, then use QTPro/ 3ivx to create a MPEG4.
The 5G iPod is capable of playing back pretty high resolution MPEG4 (720 x 306, 640 x 320, etc.) so being able to easily create quality conversions would be wonderful...
The sooner this program is released, the better the chance it will become 'The Tool' for video for the 5G iPod...I think this a great opportunity for you guys!!
EDIT- BTW the Bad Day LA hi-res clip plays back perfectly on my 5G iPod- nice! BDLA looks pretty damn cool too.

At least according to the specs, 480x480 max.. that doesn't mean it's really true though.

MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats"
