VirtualDub and "dvsd"

Appologies if this question is already answered...
I ran GSpot against my .avi file and it says that is "dvsd" and there are 2 codecs available: DV Video Decoder and AVI Draw.
I ran Register in GSpot and everything should be fine now, but it isn't. I still cannot run VirtualDub against my .avi file. It says obsessively "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown)".
What I'm trying to do is to get the ac3 file from the .avi.
I'm under WinXP.
Please help.
Thanks.

might be a codec problem, but could also be an avi problem iirc at least Ulead allows to save into different avi file types 1&2 and VirtualDub(Mod) is only able to handle type 2.
You also might want to check out Doom9s forum and search for 'dvsd' there should be a lot of threads about digital video capturing and processing. ;)

Finally I found the answer. I'll post it here for others to know.
VirtualDubMod supports only type1 avi file and does not the type2.
The Panasonic DV Codec (http://www.dvdrhelp....ol=193#comments) will fix this incopatibility in VirtualDubMod.
Thanks for any help.

maybe gspot helps to figure out what codecs are inside an avi captured by nerovision express,...
(never used NVE to capture, so don't know, but I kind of assumed at least NVE should be able to edit such a file)

Like everybody, I was not able, with VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 b2439, to see a video coming from my Sony DV recorder. Video captured with Pinnacle Studio 9, compression DV video encoder and sound PCM 16 bits 48 bits.
Thanks to this forum, I have downloaded the Video For Windows Panasonic DV codec from http://www.videohelp...ol=193#comments,
intalled it with panadv.inf... and now video and sound are OK with VirtualDubMod.
As said by GSpot, PCM audio is a non compressed format and so is handled direcly by my Win XP SP2. People having sound problem must have, during the capture, encode the sound with another audio codec. GSpot IS the answer to this question, and use it is so simple: just launch GSpot, open the video file... and read the codecs names.
Thanks for this forum's help

1) GO HERE TO GET THE DVSD CODEC:
- removed by Selur: No warez, thx -
2) GO HERE TO GET THE DV CONVERTER PROGRAM (to convert type I avi files to type II):
http://www.ulead.com...er/download.htm
3) RUN dvsd.exe TO INSTALL CODEC
4) INSTALL CONVERTER PROGRAM AND CONVERT AVI FILE TO TYPE II
Your video file will now work with VirtualDubMod and, I assume, plain old VirtualDub as well as AviSynth.
5) GO HERE TO GET PROGRAMS TO SOLVE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS YOU MAY HAVE:

@ray124c41: plz change the link for the mainconcept dvsd codec to another/offical side, e.g. http://www.mainconce...ndex.php?id=775 .
(personally I would not use the mainconcept codec unless you buy it since it leaves a watermark )

This is super-super late, but just so everyone knows, VirtualDub (since version 1.6 I think) support DVSD via an internal decoder (much like its own internal MJPEG decoder). If this reply is too late to be relevant, feel free to delete my post (and sorry).
