Hi The message i in the Console log.
3ivx was installed.
Which program? The computer in general seems to be crashing with Firefox, Safari...
I posted also a crash log over at Apple: http://discussions.a...95083&stqc=true

I don't understand this. "The computer in general crashes" would be a kernel panic (the screen is frozen with a pleasant text message telling you to restart your computer in 4 or 5 different languages). If any particular program actually crashes ("The application x has unexpectedly quit"), then you should press the "report" button to get the crash report; don't actually send it to Apple (well you can if you want, but first) copy and paste it here for us to see. Otherwise, please explain what exactly is happening.
Also, what you posted at Apple doesn't mention 3ivx, but it does appear to be the console log; didn't you say it mentioned 3ivx in the console log?
If you move 3ivx out of the /Library/QuickTime folder, and restart the computer, does the problem go away?

I'm very sorry for my incomplete message posted here. No excuse. Hope the following throws some light on the matter.
Ok this is what's been happening: The crashes seem to happen across browser software...Firefox-they don't use it (my stuff) the kids game Halo, Safari though sees to be the main one that crashes computer while they play online flash games...Pokemon, Stardolz & Moshi Monsters are the the main 3 sites they frequent...screen suddenly turns to white& or freezes screen and computer goes off black screen, my daughter uses my pen & Cintiqu tablet when using the computer my son the mouse-sometimes at the crash u can still able to move mouse/pointer but no interaction with anything that can be seen on the screen. Rarely-certainly not recent anyway, have I had a pleasant txt message saying to restart/shutdown computer.
Also I have touched the framing of the Intel screen to push the off button and have felt the HD whirling/some slight vibration but that is the HD spinning down?
Ok...I need to copy & paste reports here-I'm at work now so will do this tonight.
The 3ivx message (Console log) had a long column of something like 'cannot find 3ivx' repeated over 30+ times.
Have not removed anything from Quick time folder as yet.
Many thanks for help-much appreciated.

My kids were on the computer tonight-using Firefox-when I arrived home. My son had been playing on http://www.moshimonsters.com/login for approx 2o mins with no problems.
My daughter was about to play-she was looking for the url bookmark in Firefox when the screen went to black. The computer was off. Although I could feel the 'vibration' near the on/off button still whirling.
I switched it off at the wall power source.
When Firefox was restarted I restored the session-Behind the window of Moshi Monsters were around 8 ad windows most blank, with this url:

Next strategy: Create a new user and use that for a while, and see if the problem persists. If it does, do a clean install of OS X on a different disk and boot from that to see if the problem persists (and start off by not installing any 3rd party software for a while; if that doesn't work, try not upgrading any Apple software from your base install). If it does, try not using various peripherals for a while to see if they are the culprit (start with the tablet). If that doesn't work, try taking out one ram chip at a time and see if the problem goes away (if you don't have 2 ram modules, it is probably worth buying a second one to try this with, because afterwards you'll have more ram and ram is a cheap way to get more performance from your system regardless).
One of these options should be a way to narrow down the source of the problem. Then you narrow down from there (report back your results here for more suggestions). Usually seemingly-random kernel panics are due to bad hardware (or incompatible hardware), like ram, or funny peripherals possibly with worn cables, or a failing hard drive. I might also suspect uneven power supply (from the wall, or unlikely but possibly in your computer's power adapter) if it's none of those I already mentioned.
It's a lot of work, I know. It's up to you whether you want to troubleshoot it yourself or pay someone to "just fix it" (or buy a new mac). If you've uninstalled 3ivx and the problem persists, I'm guessing the 3ivx messages are another symptom, not the cause. And obviously lots of people use 3ivx on 10.4.11 without seeing this issue.

I'll try what u have suggested-many thanks-Gee...'ll be an expert at the end of this!
There certainly seems to be a problem with Safari so that is going into bin as soon as i get some urls from it.
Once I get thru all this I'll post my finds here.
